Flak Radio no. 1 | 11.03.06

Flak Audio presents Flak Radio, a weekly radio show that attacks pop culture with the same heightened sense of focus and professionalism that powers the Web edition of the magazine.

Join hosts Joel Meyer, Taylor Carik and James Norton as they flail around helplessly trying to make sense of all the crazy things barfed up by American pop culture this week.

In Episode One, Jim, Joel, and Taylor tackle Bob Dylan's new musical, the Dunkin' Donuts ad campaign ... and a tiny dancer who will warm your heart.

Stream individual segments below or listen to the entire show as a single mp3 podcast or download the iTunes-enhanced podcast (with images!)

Introduction

A celebration of Flak Radio's debut. A discussion of the stage presence of Hold Steady frontman Craig Finn. Meditations on Minneapolis.

Different Things Taylor Found on the Internet

Four different things — but only one, unique Taylor. This week features the Whitney Music Box, MOMA's Odilon Redon page, the little superstar video and the Rashida Jones animated .gif.

The Dunkin' Donuts Human Interest Commercial

For those who take their coffee without two scoops of sincerity. Original article by Ceda Xiong, read by James Norton.

How Does it Feel? Like a Kick in the Balls.

Bob Dylan's new musical, The Times, They Are a Changin', made a mini-debut on The View last week. Jim, Taylor, and Joel weigh in on the segment's artistic merit, including commentary on using a star-bespangled yoga ball to represent the "rolling stone" featured in the lyrics.

What Was the Theme?

Joel Meyer, utilizing an army of researchers and a lightning-quick wit, sews together all the show's segements into one draw-droppingly seamless whole. Must be heard to be believed.
