About Flak Radio
These guys are great sharp as tacks, incredibly informed, funny as hell, and definitely worth your listening time. [ Paul Schmelzer of eyeteeth.org ]
A "wide-ranging" and "laid-back" show featuring "engaging" hosts and "lively" proceedings.
[ Mpls St. Paul magazine, Jan. 2008, "Wild.Weird.Wacky@WWW" ]
The Emmy-nominated Flak Radio program is the weekly podcast of Flak Magazine. Based out of the guest room of James Norton's Minneapolis apartment, it features Taylor Carik and a frequently rotating cast of guest co-hosts. It's produced and syndicated for the Web in New York City by Tim Wright.
In early 2008, engineer Adam Voreis and contributing writer Eric Nigg joined the Flak Radio team. Respectively, they provide the show with its newly minted smooth sound, and newly minted fat-packt laffs.
Regular features of the 50-minute long program include interviews with guest hosts, the on-air sampling of adult beverages, discussions of Flak Magazine stories and various minor quiz segments of no real import.
The Flak Radio theme song is entitled "Flak Jacket." It's performed by Wayne Lewis of the L.A. Riots.
Summit Brewing and The Social Element sponsored Flak's official swag of choice, the Flak Radio commemorative pint glass.
HISTORY, ETC.
Flak Radio began in November 2006. Al Franken Show producers James Norton and Joel Meyer, careening toward unemployment as the show expired, co-founded Flak Radio as an outlet for their surplus broadcast energy. Minneapolitan writer and man-about-town Taylor Carik was brought on board as a co-host, and the show clicked. More than 50 episodes later, it rolls onward.
Joel Meyer has since moved on to New York where he works for the public radio show Soundcheck.
Guests have included Onion editor Scott Dikkers, Kevin Murphy of Mystery Science Theater 3000, Jason DeRusha of WCCO, Aaron Landry of S4xton.com, Angie D of Overheard in Minneapolis, Electric Arc Radio, Rachel Hutton of City Pages, Tony Thomas of Minneapoliscast, and Internet musical sensation Tay Zonday.
Flak Radio reaches listeners via the magic of the Interblogs.
