The Saga of Volume 2, Issue 6
by James Norton
Not a whole lot to say about issue 6 of volume 2. We put our Liberator lighters on sale here, and sold 'em out; they were wildly popular. I think I still have mine in a drawer somewhere. I vividly remember that you could pop off a metal guard on your Liberator lighter and turn it into a hand-held flamethrower with a three-inch reach. Good stuff.
The day that we distributed the lighters (standing at the Ash St. entrance, as always) I remember Libby coming up and telling us that we couldn't sell them on school grounds, and offering to "hold" our lighters for us, at the central office. We thought on our feet, thanked her for her kindness, and hustled them out of the building before she could get her claws on them.
Although the lighters sold largely to students, a number of teachers bought 'em, too. That felt good.
This issue also saw the debut of Ivan Klipstein, probably the most talented cartoonist to grace the Liberator's pages.
