A Metaphor
By Kanjana Thepboriruk
Inspired by Nature s Cruelest Mood: Winter
In Autumn
When the Globe awaits winter
A horrific fate dawns upon us
Squirrels.
During Summer and Autumn
We must eat everything we can take.
In the Summer We haven't the time
To just enjoy life as given.
Rather, we work and work under the influences of
Greed.
Greed for food.
Greed for shelter.
Greed Survival.
In the Fall we haven't the time
To relax from the stresses Summer cursed us.
Rather we provide ourselves with hibernating
Necessities.
Necessities to withstand Winter.
Necessities for our dying bodies.
Necessities for survival.
And with all the pains and suffering
All the stresses and commitments
All of that for just 6 months of
Total numbness.
6 Months of
Dark
Dreamless
Non-Emotional
Non-Productive
Numbness.
All of that time of hard labor
Just to accommodate ourselves
With the Efficiency of
Not feeling a Damn thing!
So the question remains
What for?
