Free Thought Club Founded
By Jim Norton
West's Free Thought Club had its first meeting last Tuesday. Founded by junior Leon Barnard, the Free Thought Club's first meeting was attended by about 15 students, who met and creatively discussed a host of random subjects, ranging from new ways of introducing oneself, to the concept of impregnation by tree sap. The discussion was lively and extremely unstructured, with students bouncing from one bizarre subject to another, in a wild show of random thought.
Leon's main reason for the founding of the Free Thought Club was his wish to live in "a society where unique and bizarre opinions are valued, instead of shunned," and where revolutionary thoughts could be expressed without fear of ridicule or censorship.
Leon's future plans for the organization include branching out to other schools in the Madison area, and the possibility of theme days at West.
The Free Thought Club will meet every Tuesday after school in room 107; activities include open discussion, reading of creative writing, and brainstorming on random topics thought of by club members.
