Skipping and Stuff
By Norman X
People have a lot of ideas about why they haven't been getting skip calls. "Still too early in the school year," "You have to skip a lot to get a call," or "Technology has not yet been developed to the point where they could place calls to every student marked un-excused at the school" are some of the ones I've heard. Well, from what I'm told, school administrators are "cracking down" on skipping by sending a letter home for every 3 times a student is marked unexcused (I assume the consequences get progressively worse every time you skip). I'm not sure how you feel about this, but I think it bites. Here's an idea (LIGHT BULB, flash of BRIGHT LIGHT) How about having OPEN CAMPUS, thus drastically cutting down on the number of unexcused absences? Well, unfortunately this bill has not gone over too well with our beloved governor, and until it does, I don't think you'll see the unexcused absences going down.
