In the meantime: My work history is a little bit complicated. I was editor in chief of The Daily Cardinal at UW-Madison. In 1999, I founded Flak Magazine, an online journal of pop culture that is still published daily.
I moved on to The Christian Science Monitor, where I moved from online intern, to online news producer, to news editor for Csmonitor.com. After that, I served as Middle East editor for the paper during the invasion of Iraq and beyond. Among the correspondents I regularly edited was Cameron W. Barr, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize (Beat Reporting), and now the Middle East editor for The Washington Post.
I left the Monitor to join the staff of Al Franken's new radio show. I served as research director during the run-up to and through the conclusion of the 2004 presidential election.
I then took seven months off. Among other projects, I wrote a book called Saving General Washington that was published by Tarcher/Penguin.
I rejoined Mr. Franken in Minneapolis-St. Paul, and served as head booker for the show for a little more than a year.
Now I'm a full-time food writer, blogging and writing for CHOW, a CNET-owned San Francisco-based magazine. My weekly product review column (Supertaster) made its debut in September of 2007. I also write a weekly column reviewing $20 and under restaurants for City Pages; previously, I was a contributing reviewer to Minnesota Monthly. For what it's worth, my weekly podcast (Flak Radio) was nominated for a regional Emmy.
